The Smallholder Irrigation Revitalisation Programme (SIRP) hosted its sister project , the Smallholder Agriculture Cluster Project (SACP) in the Midlands Province in April 2023. The delegations were led by the project coordinators for the two programmes, Odreck Mukorera (SIRP) and Godfrey Nehanda (SACP) Members of the Project Management Units and Provincial Project Implementation Units , implementing agencies such as AGRITEX also participated in the visit. The group visited three irrigation schemes Mayorca, Exchange Irrigation Scheme in Kwekwe District and Insukamini Irrigation Scheme in Gweru District.
The objectives of the exchange visit were;
• to enable the SACP PMU to improve program quality and effectiveness for the beneficiary communities by learning from SIRP inventions.
• To provide a platform for an open exchange of ideas, knowledge, and sound practices for project staff and stakeholders.
• To facilitate participant learning from the success and challenges of SIRP in the two districts in the Midlands Province that also fall under SACP.
• Increase the exposure of the exchange visit participants to the broader irrigation management strategies and identify areas for adoption and adaptation under the SACP.
The participants managed to visit three irrigation schemes, groups in the greater scheme area that are involved in poultry, vegetable production as well as having an appreciation of a post harvest centre set up by SIRP in Midlands Province.
